Lthe news is official and greedy: the saga of Dune at the cinema continues with a second chapter, in cinemas from 2023. Warner Bros. announces it with fanfares, even if it was to be expected, given the welcome during the world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.
History
The story born from the bestseller of the same name by Frank Herbert (Fanucci publisher), the first of six novels, and represents a very powerful metaphor of humanity. In this dystopian future directed by Denise Villeneuve, in fact, which recalls the medieval organization of fiefdoms, a young noble, Paul (Timothee Chalamet), moves to the planet Arrakis called Dune to reign there after his father, Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac). With them traveling are senior officials and their mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). The place, however, is highly coveted because it is rich in a rare and precious resource, capable of extraordinary powers.
The boy frequently dreams of a mysterious figure, Chani (Zendaya), who will then play a crucial role in the sequel.
The advances
Being based on a science fiction saga, the plot of the next chapter is already well known to readers, but in order not to spoil the surprise let’s try to put together the hitherto known pieces of the film adaptation. The first chapter has put together an all-star cast that includes – in addition to the names already mentioned – Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa. And for the next the director (but also producer and co-writer) promises a more pressing pace and even more action. What at Deadline defines “a dream come true”, in fact, will allow him to explore this individual but also collective journey with greater lightness and in a more scenographic way. To tell this universe, in fact, the filmmaker of Blade Runner 2049 has resorted to extended times and epic rhythms, but it seems that all this will change in the future.
