On the morning of last Monday (24), the Federal Police arrested a man and a woman who were picking up a package containing equipment used for assembling weapons at a Post Office in Maré, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. .
According to the investigation, the duo purchased, received, transported and supplied military materials to organized crime operating in the region. Materials such as holographic sights, scopes, stocks and imported high-capacity rifle magazines were sold by them. The weapons were capable of storing 50 rounds of ammunition and firing up to 50 uninterrupted shots.
The prisoners were taken to the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in Rio de Janeiro and, after the formal arrest in the act, they must be sent to the prison system, where they will remain at the disposal of the Justice.
“The investigations showed that the factions operating in Complexo da Maré use individuals to purchase accessories for firearms, such as high-capacity magazines. In this way, they supply the communities with this war logistics”, explains PF delegate José Paulo Duval.
For the delegate, it is important to highlight that this equipment contributes to the escalation of violence in Rio de Janeiro. “These are items in high demand by criminal factions in attacks against police forces and society as a whole.”
The arrests were carried out in a joint action between the Integrated Force to Combat Organized Crime (FICCO/RJ) and the International Task Force to Combat Trafficking in Arms and Ammunition (FICTA). FICCO is a task force composed of the Federal Police, Civil Police and Military Police, and its objective is to carry out joint and integrated action in combating organized and violent crime in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
FICTA is a unit supervised by the Arms Traffic Repression Service of the Federal Police and composed of the PF, the National Secretariat of Public Security of the Ministry of Justice and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) – the main investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security of the States.
