Duo that pretended to help elderly to steal is trapped in Rio

Agents of the 33rd Police Station (Realengo) arrested Two women suspected of practicing a series of violent thefts against the elderly in different regions of Rio and Baixada Fluminense.

Coordinated by delegate Flávio Rodrigues, the operation was the result of investigations conducted by the 33rd DP, with support from the intelligence sector. One of the suspicions was located in the communion of Faz who wants, in Rocha Miranda, and the other in Turiaçu. Both had pre -trial arrest warrants issued by the 1st Criminal Court of the Bangu Regional Forum.

The pair was identified after a 79 -year -old registered occurrence reporting that they were pushed and stolen by the criminals in Bonsucesso, in the North Zone of Rio. The suspicions used the victim’s cards in fraudulent purchases.

According to police, women approached the elderly mainly, using false gestures of help – such as offering aid to cross the street – and then applied blows and violence to steal bags, wallets and cards.

The criminal actions spread across neighborhoods such as Penha, Campo Grande and Bangu, as well as cities of Baixada, such as Nova Iguaçu, Duque de Caxias and Belford Roxo. The pair even committed two to three thefts a day, according to the investigators.

One of them had already been caught in the act for theft in 2023 and has a history. The other, although without previous arrests, is investigated by another theft in the same way. At the suspicion house, cell phones used in the crimes were seized.

Both were taken to the 33rd DP and subsequently sent to the competent prison system.
