The Durable goods requests in January rose 3.4%, above the 1.1% market consensus. In December they had increased 1.2%, a figure that was revised from 0.2%.
Orders not including transportation they rose 1.4%, higher than the 0.7% of the consensus in January; in December they increased 1.7% (revised from 0.7%). The orders without defense rose 2.3% and not including defense or aviation, advanced 0.5%, below the 0.7% expected, although the December data was revised to 1.5% from 0.6%.
At the same time, there was a fall in the initial requests for unemployment benefits to the lowest in three months and the second estimate of GDP growth for the fourth quarter. The data had no impact on the dollar.
