During Cannes, Pedro Pascal pronounces in favor of the protection of immigrants

During the press conference of “Eddington” new movie by Ari Aster (“Midsommar”, “hereditary”), Pedro Pascal manifested himself by the protection of immigrants who live in the United States, especially after the new immigration policies adopted by the Government of Donald Trump.

“It’s scary for an actor to participate in a movie that talks about such subjects,” says Pascal. “I want to see people safe and protected. And I want to live on the right side of the story. I’m immigrant, my parents are refugees from Chile. We run away from a dictatorship. I had the privilege of growing in the US, and If it wasn’t for that I don’t know what would have happened . And that’s why I defend the protection of all immigrants. ”

Pascal and his family left Chile in 1976 after a coup d’état led by General Augusto Pinochet, who took the power of the then socialist and democratically elected government of President Salvador Allende. At the time, the actor was only nine months old.

The actor’s family got political asylum in Denmark and, shortly thereafter, they managed to travel to San Antonio, Texas, where the actor spent part of his childhood .

Always vocal about the American political situation, Pascal also asked people to face those who made them scared to be who they are. “Keep telling your stories, Keep expressing yourself and struggling to be who you are . […] Fight back. This is the only way to tell your story, and don’t let them win, ”he said.
