A Dutch court has rejected a motion by Alexey Pertsev’s lawyers for bail and ordered the Tornado Cash developer to remain in custody pending an appeal.

The Dutch Court of Appeal in ‘s-Hertogenbosch rejected a motion by Alexey Pertsev’s lawyers Keith Cheng and Judith de Boer to release their client on bail, and upheld the decision to continue keeping the Tornado Cash developer under house arrest.

Despite the lawyers’ claims, the court found Pertsev’s defense arguments insufficiently convincing and stated that there was a high probability that the convicted person would escape before the verdict came into legal force. The court allowed Alexey Pertsev to use a computer to prepare his defense.

A year earlier, the US FBI arrested Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm, and the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added another member of the Tornado Cash mixer creators, Roman Semenov, to the sanctions list. Semenov is currently wanted.

Recall that Alexey Pertsev was arrested in the Netherlands in August 2022. The co-founder of the crypto mixer Tornado Cash was found guilty of organizing the process of laundering funds totaling about $1.2 billion.
