Dutch Prime Minister promises new military and economic aid to Kyiv

The war in Ukraine could last for a long time and Western countries should “continue to support Ukraine in every possible way,” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said today from Kyiv.

“This war could last longer than we predicted or hoped for. But that doesn’t mean we can sit back and passively watch how it unfolds. We have to stay focused and continue to support Ukraine in every way we can,” Rutte said. at the joint press conference he gave with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Dutch prime minister earlier visited Bucha, Irpin and Borodyanka, three towns on the outskirts of Kiev that were seized by Russian forces early in the war and became symbols of brutality.

Rutte announced the shipment of new long-range artillery systems to Ukraine, as well as financial aid of 200 million euros.

This was the Dutch prime minister’s first visit to Kyiv since the Russian invasion on February 24. Zelensky said via Telegram that he had “constructive talks” with Rutte and thanked the Netherlands, a country that is among Ukraine’s “top ten partners”.
