“Dying for sex”: Understand a real case that inspired the series

The new miniseries “Dying for sex” starring the actress Michelle Williams 44, debut at the Disney+ streaming service this Friday (4).

Production is inspired by the real history of Molly Kochan woman who became known after the eponymous podcast to the series, created with her best friend Nikki Boyer tell your story.

When Molly (Michelle Williams) is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in stage four, she decides to leave her husband, Steve (Jay Duplass), to explore the breadth and complexity of their sexual desires for the first time in their life.

Meet the real case of “dying for sex”

Molly Kochan, a woman who received a diagnosis of cancer in stage IV, decided to leave her 15 -year -old husband. Along with the best friend Nikki – who even participates in the production of the series – she set up a podcast, “Dying for Sex”, to tell the story.

In 2015, Kochan had already gone through chemotherapy, bilateral mastectomy, radiotherapy and breast reconstruction When it was diagnosed again with breast cancer IV, terminally. She then left her husband and struggled to explore her sexuality in recent years.

The idea and execution of the podcast came in 2018. The launch, however, was only occurred in 2020, a year after Kochan’s death.

Kochan’s memories book, “Screw Cancer: Becoming Whole” it was also published in 2020.

All material was obtained by the producer ELIZABETH MERIWETHER (“New Girl”), which heads the production of Disney+. Nikki Boyer also participated in the creative process.

The cast of “dying for sex” is still composed of Rob Delaney, Kelvin Yu, David Rasche, ESCO JOULÉY and SISSY SPACEK.
