It would become viral The shirt worn by Elle Fanning in Cannes on the occasion of photocall Of Sentimental Valueor at least it could become so in the circle of cinephiles who know Joachim Trier and wish an emotional and intense summer as the films of the Norwegian director … if only it were on sale.
The white t-shirt with writing “Joachim Trier Summer” is of Dylan’s T-Shirt Club, The brand of streetwear Founded, in fact, by Dylan, a 11 -year -old boy who lives in Los Angeles with his parents (the mother is the note stylist Samantha McMillenwho works with Elle Fanning, as well as with Kirsten Dunst and Ana de Armas, to name a few), as its peers attends the school, builds Lego, and draws T -shirts. So far nothing extraordinary if it were not that to wear his creations are characters from the world of cinema, music and fashion: in addition to Fanning, also Jamie Lee Curtis, A $ ap Ferg, Pharrell, Nicolas Ghesquière and Pierpaolo Piccioli.

Returning to the shirt worn by Fanning at the Festival, for those who hope to grab one: nothing to do, Dylan’s t-shirts are unique pieces, hand designed and numbered.
Behind this shirt there are therefore two stories, that of A summer at the Joachim Trierwhatever it means – Charli XCX was coined that, during his performance at the Coachella, he projected this and other sentences on the screen. And there is the story of Dylanthe one that interests us to deepen. For this reason I decided to interview him, albeit, as understandable, through the filter of his father well who manages his profile Instagram. Below is what he told us.

I admire your work very much, I have an 8-year-old boy I like to draw, a few years ago I made his drawings print on some t-shirts for him (but he never wanted to wear them) and for some friends and relatives, who have instead greatly appreciated them. I think it was important for him. It is essential, from an early age, to trust their ideas – to know that they have value and that they can become reality. What advice would you give to your peer with artistic ambitions?
“Never stop believing in yourself and thrown away.”
I believe that creativity free from conditioning that characterizes you very young is the one that makes your creations special. As Picasso said: «Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once grown up ». Aren’t you afraid of losing your creative streak, now that what was born as a game begins to look like a “work”?
«Not at all. Indeed, I feel I am even more creative and inspired as I grow. “
How was the idea of starting to create t-shirts?
“I was six years old, in 2019, and my grandmother – who had come to see me here in Los Angeles from England – gave me a pack of fabric markers. He thought I could do something cute, so I decided to try them on a shirt. I liked the result and from there I continued to make others ».

Who or what has inspired you?
«The grandmother, who is an artist. Furthermore, in my family creativity is very present: my parents are creative, and my grandfather in England is too a painter Really fantastic ».
Who helped you start?
“My parents and my grandmother supported my idea from the beginning, and then friends and relatives began to ask me for t-shirts, and so everything grew up.”
Do you remember the first shirt you created?
«It was a creature invented by me, with the ridge, big ears and pointed teeth. A great start! ».

How do you make your t-shirts? Has something changed, in the techniques you use, compared to when you started almost six years ago?
«Usually I trace the very slightly slight pencil drawing and then those. When I started, I used the markers directly. Even now, if the drawing is simple, jump the pencil and drawing directly with the fabric markers ».
Where do you make them: or do you have a dedicated space in your room?
«I made most of the 317 shirts on a large wooden table at home, with the nearby artistic materials, in the game room. But sometimes I also do them in hotels or Airbnb when I travel, and it is super fun ».

Tell me about your collaborations with Henry Rose and Woven. What is it about? How were they born?
«Henry Rose is the house of perfumes founded by the coolest person there is: Michelle Pfeiffer. I had already made for her two t-shirts inspired by her fragrances. They liked them so much that he asked me to create four more, each inspired by a different bottle, then sold through Henry Rose. Woven is special because it is a very cool men’s fashion shop in Durham, in the north-east of England. My dad grew up in Durham, and years ago he had worked right in that shop. Chris, the owner, and all the staff are fantastic. Chris gave me the opportunity to sell two capsule collection from 10 t-shirts each. It was the first shop to put my shirts for sale ».
