Dyson presented headphones with a mask for air filtration

Dyson showed a prototype of a new product – they are headphones with a mask for air filtration, reports the Guardian.

Unlike the company’s earlier products, the Dyson Zone is a set of full-size noise canceling Bluetooth headphones and a mask with an integrated air purification system. The kit, reminiscent of a gadget from a sci-fi movie, is designed for city dwellers looking to avoid polluted air.

“Air pollution is a global problem, it affects us everywhere we go. Dyson Zone purifies the air you breathe on the go. And unlike face masks, it delivers fresh air without touching your face,” says Chief Engineer Jake Dyson.

The mask detaches from the overall structure so that you can move it away as needed or remove it completely, leaving only the headphones.

Zone captures air through the headphones, filters it, and delivers it through the mask. The degree of filtration is adjustable, the modes change manually or automatically depending on the traffic intensity. Headphones are equipped with sensors that detect the speed of movement to adjust the intensity of the air flow.

According to Dyson, the air filters up to 99% of harmful particles, “including pollen, bacteria and dust, as well as gaseous pollutants such as sulfur or nitrogen dioxide.”

Dyson Zone includes several noise reduction modes, from complete sound isolation mode to transparency mode, when some external sounds are heard. When you remove the mask, the headphones automatically switch to talk mode, turning off active noise cancellation.

As Dyson promises, the battery will last for 4.5 hours at the minimum Zone cleaning speed, or 1.5 hours at the maximum. Headphones as a separate device work up to 40 hours. The device is charged via USB-C.

The product will go on sale this autumn. It is expected that the cost will vary from £500 to £1,000 (56 thousand rubles – 113 thousand rubles).
