E. Ahtsioglou: Double deception with the power pass

“There is a general outcry about the power pass and the citizens are not unjustly outraged. The government and the Ministry of Finance are coming to terms with their own lies,” said SYRIZA-PS Finance Department head Efi Ahtsioglou to “Kokkino 105.5”.

“Mr. Mitsotakis deliberately cultivated the impression that these are compensations of the order of 600 euros. From his office there was a systematic effort to convince the citizens that they will receive 600 euros. Indicative are the posts on twitter of Mr. Dimitriadis about “how you will receive the 600 euros,” he added.

“What actually happened is a double deception: 1) Citizens do not receive 600 euros for nothing, the average subsidy is 17 euros per month for 6 months, while the bills reach 4 and 5 times higher. 2) While he had explicitly supported by the finance minister that 95% of households will be compensated, after all 40% of what Mr. Staikouras said receive absolutely nothing”, he noted.

“Meanwhile the profiteering party continues, the government continues to back the cartel in the energy market and gives these meager subsidies after bleeding the citizens’ income many times over, from excessive taxation due to accuracy,” he underlined.

Mrs. Ahtsioglou said that “Greece has found itself in a difficult situation with a government that has brought it to extreme negative positions in energy inflation, in the disproportion of wages to fuel costs, in the price of gasoline.”

He emphasized, at the same time, the “need to take measures at two levels, regulatory and fiscal, with intervention in the energy market and a ceiling on the wholesale, retail price and profits of the companies, with PPC under public control that will exercise social intervention, with a reduction of Excise Tax on fuel and VAT on food”.

He pointed out, finally, that the ND aims to “serve oligarchic economic interests”, which is why “it is a social necessity to change the government”, because “with the right priorities, the large social majority can be protected”.
