The volume of sales made over the internet grew 15.52% in February 2022 compared to the same month last year. The sector’s revenue, in turn, expanded 11.2%. The data, advanced to Broadcast (Grupo Estado’s real-time news system), are from the MCC-ENET index, developed by Neotrust Movimento Compre & Confie, in partnership with the Metrics Committee of the Brazilian Chamber of Digital Economy (camara-e .net).

“Online billing grew in the month, compared to the same period last year, 11.20%, which is consistent with the expectation of having a growth for 2022 of 10 to 15% of billed volume”, says Gastão Mattos, responsible for Camara-e.net’s Online Retail Division.

If compared with the immediately previous month, January, the sector’s revenue had a negative variation of 17.14%. On the other hand, the accumulated index of the last 12 months is still up 22.27%.

January

In January, e-commerce represented 13.3% of restricted retail trade (which does not include vehicles, parts and construction materials). In the last 12 months, the share of e-commerce in the retail trade corresponds to 12.3%.

In the month in question, the breakdown of purchases made over the Internet, by segment, showed equipment and supplies for office, IT and communication with 42.7% of sales; furniture and appliances with 28.5%; and fabrics, apparel and footwear, with 10.4%.

Subsequently, pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, perfumery and cosmetic articles accounted for 7.1%; other articles for personal and domestic use, 5.5%); hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco, 3.9%); and, finally, books, newspapers, magazines and stationery, with 1.9%.

The monthly indices come from the comparison of data from the last current month in relation to the base period (average of 2017). To compose the index, Neotrust Compre & Confie collects 100% of all real sales from a large part of the Brazilian e-commerce market, additionally using statistical processes to compose information on the total Brazilian e-commerce market.

Information from national economic indicators from IBGE, IPEA and FGV is also used. Data from the MercadoLivre, OLX and Webmotors websites, in addition to the travel and tourism sector, advertisements and transport and food applications, are not accounted for in the MCC-ENET, as they are not yet monitored by Neotrust Movimento Compre & Confie.
