EA Sports, developer and distributor of video games, announced on Tuesday (10) that it will end its 30-year partnership with FIFA, ending one of the most successful video game franchises in the world.
“After nearly 30 years of creating interactive football experiences that defined the genre, we are now ushering in an exciting new era,” the company said in a statement.
EA also said that, before ending the partnership, it will release the last game under the classic FIFA name.
The change will start from July 2023 and the football games will take the title of EA Sports FC.
According to the statement, the next FIFA will be the most expansive ever with more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions and players than any FIFA released previously.
“The future of the sport is very big and bright, and football fans are arriving in every corner of the world,” the company wrote.
EA said there will be more than 300 licensing partners, including the Premier League, LaLiga and UEFA.
These agreements will help the company keep most of the world’s famous clubs and stars with their teams and leagues, even if the World Cup and other FIFA-controlled events are no longer included.
Shares in EA, which is due to release its quarterly results after markets close on Tuesday, fell 3%.
