The Association of Insurance Companies of Greece (EAEE) completed the investigation among the Insurance Companies – its members regarding the first assessment of the damages caused by the snowfalls (bad weather Elpis) that prevailed in Greece (Attiki, Evia, Boeotia etc.) on period 22 – 25 January 2022.
3,059 losses were declared with the total amount of receivables estimated at € 6.5 million.
Of these, 1,063 losses related to property insurance (estimated compensation of € 3.7 million), 1,990 losses related to car insurance (estimated € 2.8 million) and 6 losses related to yacht insurance (estimated € 25,700).
On the occasion of the completion of the investigation, Mr. Errikos Moatsos, Chairman of the Property Committee of EAEE commented: “At the beginning of the year the bad weather” Elpis “brought heavy snowfall which resulted in several damages mainly to buildings and cars. Insured damages caused by extreme natural phenomena and indemnities called upon to be paid by insurance undertakings We have recorded 44 cases of exceptional severity which have caused 40,942 losses since 1993. For these damages the indemnities paid by the insurance company € 517 million “.
