Earnings of 302% in travel receipts in February

Travel receipts recorded a new leap in February, rising more than 300%, as did incoming travel traffic, with the travel balance showing a surplus of 63m euros, according to the Bank of Greece.

In particular, according to provisional data, the travel balance in February 2022 showed a surplus of 63.0 million euros, compared to a surplus of 5.4 million euros in the corresponding month of 2021. In particular, an increase of 302.6% was recorded in February. 2022 travel receipts, which amounted to 133.0 million euros, compared to 33.0 million euros in the corresponding month of 2021, while an increase of 152.8% was also observed in travel payments (February 2022: 69.9 million. Euros, February 2021: EUR 27.7 million). The increase in travel receipts is due to the increase in incoming travel traffic by 314.8%, as the average expenditure per trip decreased by 3.4%. Net receipts from travel services offset the goods deficit by 2.0% and contributed 23.0% to total net receipts from services.

In the period January-February 2022, the travel balance showed a surplus of 123.8 million euros, compared to a surplus of 7.0 million euros in the corresponding period of 2021. An increase of 205.8 million euros (306.2%) was presented by travel receipts , which amounted to 273.0 million euros, while an increase of 89.0 million euros (147.9%) was also observed in travel payments, which amounted to 149.2 million euros. The increase in travel receipts is due to the increase in incoming travel traffic by 282.5%, as well as the increase in the average expenditure per trip by 5.8%. Net receipts from travel services offset the goods deficit by 2.0% and contributed 18.8% to total net receipts from services.

In February 2022, as mentioned above, travel receipts increased by 302.6% compared to the corresponding month of 2021. More specifically, receipts from residents of EU-27 countries increased by 291.7%, which were formed in € 72.5 million, while receipts from residents of non-EU-27 countries increased by 312.5% ​​(February 2022: € 59.9 million, February 2021: € 14.5 million). The increase in receipts from residents of EU-27 countries was a result of the increase in receipts from residents of euro area countries by 261.2% (February 2022: 52.8 million euros, February 2021: 14.6 million. receipts from residents of EU-27 countries outside the euro area by 406.6%, amounting to € 19.7 million. In particular, for the most important countries of origin of travelers from the euro area, receipts from Germany increased by 264.2% and amounted to 18.2 million euros and those from France by 420.7% to 5.5 million . euro. From outside the EU-27, receipts from the United Kingdom increased by 427.0%, amounting to 13.1 million euros, while receipts from the US increased by 1,702.1% and amounted to 7 , EUR 8 million. Receipts from Russia increased significantly to 4.0 million euros.

In the period January-February 2022, travel receipts increased by 306.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 and amounted to 273.0 million euros. This development is due to the increase of receipts from residents of EU-27 countries by 280.3%, which amounted to 152.6 million euros, as well as receipts from residents of non-EU-27 countries by 340.8 %, which amounted to 119.4 million euros. More specifically, receipts from residents of euro area countries amounted to 115.4 million euros, increased by 278.8%, while receipts from residents of EU-27 countries outside the euro area increased by 285.0 % and amounted to 37.2 million euros. In particular, receipts from Germany increased by 243.5% and amounted to 39.6 million euros, while receipts from France increased by 451.4% and amounted to 10.9 million euros. Outside the EU-27, receipts from the United Kingdom rose by 477.2% to € 29.5 million. Receipts from the US increased by 2,308.1% and amounted to 14.8 million euros, while those from Russia increased significantly and amounted to 4.9 million euros.

Incoming travel traffic

Incoming travel traffic in February 2022 amounted to 317.0 thousand travelers, increased by 314.8% compared to the corresponding month of 2021. In particular, travel traffic through airports increased by 575.6% compared to February of 2021 and this through road border stations by 197.4%. The increase in incoming travel traffic came both from the increase in travel traffic from EU-27 countries (by 371.5%) and from non-EU-27 countries (by 253.6%). More specifically, travel traffic from the euro area countries amounted to 118.6 thousand travelers, increased by 433.7%. Travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area also increased by 292.3%, reaching 68.4 thousand travelers. In particular, travel traffic from Germany increased by 429.4% to 41.7 thousand travelers, while that from France increased by 320.8% to 10.2 thousand travelers. Regarding non-EU-27 countries, travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 544.9% to 23.1 thousand travelers and from the USA by 1,652.2% to 6.0 thousand travelers. Finally, travel traffic from Russia also increased by 3,103.2% and amounted to 5.1 thousand travelers.

In the period January-February 2022, the incoming travel traffic increased by 282.5% and amounted to 658.4 thousand travelers, compared to 172.2 thousand travelers in the corresponding period of 2021. In particular, the traffic traffic through airports increased by 431, 4%, while that through road stations by 190.8%. During the period under review, travel traffic from EU-27 countries amounted to 384.5 thousand travelers, showing an increase of 278.9% compared to the corresponding period of 2021, while travel traffic from non-EU countries 27 increased by 287.6% and amounted to 273.9 thousand travelers. Travel traffic from euro area countries increased by 328.4%, while travel traffic from EU-27 countries outside the euro area increased by 199.9%. In particular, travel traffic from Germany increased by 255.2% and amounted to 96.0 thousand travelers, while that from France increased by 378.6% and amounted to 26.0 thousand travelers. Regarding non-EU-27 countries, travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 507.4% to 56.4 thousand travelers, while that from the United States increased by 1,466.7% to 16.8 thousand. travelers. Finally, travel traffic from Russia increased by 1,417.1% and amounted to 7.2 thousand travelers.

Inbound travel traffic does not include cruise ship sizes other than those recorded by the Border Survey.
