Earth Day: trip to Italy in 10 places of nature to discover

In our “home trenches” of the Covid era we look at the Earth from an unusual point of view, almost as external spectators who, while perceiving how much their “absence” from the planet seems to grant a breath to nature and ecosystems, at the same time become conscious how much one’s own existence is a threat to the very place that allows it. The need is to re-establish a dialogue with the silent sacredness of the planet and, above all, with ourselves in search of a new direction, and the opportunity to start it can be that of World Earth Day of the United Nations, a global call of ecological consciences that returns again this April 22, mobilizing about a billion people.

Since that 1970 when, on the initiative of the pacifist John McConnell and the US senator Gaylord Nelson, 20 million American citizens took to the streets to protest against the impact on the environment of industrial processes and land exploitation, theEarth Day Network spanned half a century. Fifty-one years of arduous challenges against the loss of biodiversity and pollution, to guarantee all human beings, regardless of race, religion and social class, the right to live a healthy, sustainable and integral world. And protect all other species: from bees to elephants, from whales to coral reefs.

In the boot, he is thinking about turning on the spotlight on April 22nd Earth Day Italia which will celebrate with the multimedia marathon #OnePeopleOnePlanet, as part of the global media event which will involve 75 thousand partners among the 193 member countries of the United Nations. Everything can be followed with a 13-hour live (from 7:30 to 20:30) on the Rai Play streaming channel. Hundreds of associations with a single common denominator, producing television content in order to raise awareness of the beauty of our planet which – declares Pierluigi Sassi president of Earth Day Italia – «An aggressive and predatory economy is seriously endangering. This enlightened operation, which represents a concrete sign of hope for the achievement of the ambitious but urgent objectives of sustainable development, sees young people in particular. We owe them not only a healthy Earth but also the right to decide on their future ».

And what if not this day can be the excuse to write down in the notebook the places of nature absolutely to see in from north to south, behind the doors of the house, as soon as the Covid-19 emergency is over. Taking into account walks, silence and peace: in short, a real full immersion with the slow times of the Earth.
