Residents of Lago Inle, located in the village of Kaylar, in Myanmar, were severely affected by the last earthquake that occurred in the country, which recorded magnitude 7.7, considered as “very strong” on the Richter scale.
Known as one of the most popular sights in the country, recent images of the lake and the village of Kaylar revealed several destroyed houses and submerged structures. Ye Muint, a local resident, reported that she is worried about her family and the situation:
“My house collapsed completely. Now I’m homeless. And we haven’t received help, none. I’m very depressed, because the situation is getting worse. We’re going through the sun all day without help. I’m worried that my children can get infectious diseases. And we can’t sleep last night because it rained and rained all night.”

The earthquake, which took place around noon at local time, on March 28, left 31 dead and 435 houses destroyed in the region, according to the village authority. In addition, Kaylar’s 4,000 residents are still awaiting rescue for government assistance.
Volunteers have also faced difficulties to access the site due to the blockade of bridges, highways and airports, which were caused by tremors and floods.
Humanitarian aid agencies warned that the combination of out -of -season rainfall and extreme heat can cause epidemics, including cholera, among the survivors who are homeless.
The strong earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28 killed 3,471 people in the country, state media said, with 4,671 people injured and another 214 still missing.
