Earthquake in Turkey: Erdogan offered condolences to relatives of dead MP in live broadcast

The dead from the killers earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have reached almost 8,000. One of them was the Turkish member of parliament of the ruling AKP party, Yakup Tas.

On hearing the news, Turkey’s president and AKP strongman, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, through the Minister of Transport Antil Karaismailoglou contacted relatives of the MP, to whom he expressed his condolences. The phone call was recorded and then leaked on social media and went viral.

“My condolences. I send my love to his family. May his soul rest in peace”Erdogan said among other things in the phone call.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday (7/2) declared a disaster zone in the ten provinces hit by earthquakes in southern Turkey and imposed a three-month state of emergency in the region.

In a speech, Erdogan said 70 countries had offered help to search and rescue operations and that authorities planned to open hotels in Antalya, a tourist resort in western Turkey, to temporarily house people affected by the earthquakes.
