Regarding the Syria, Damascus requested the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism this morning. As Commissioner Lenarcic explained, the request for assistance from Syria contains a long list: assistance or search and rescue services, medical supplies and medical equipment, food and many other types of emergency assistance.
“We encourage the member states and other countries participating in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to respond favorably to this request,” Lenarcic stressed, adding that it must be ensured that aid reaches the people who need it. “That’s something we’ll be watching.”
