Earthquake in Turkey: The German media praise the Greek rescuers

Her mission EMAK in Turkey continues her great effort to rescue other people who are in the ruins after the killers earthquakes that affected the country and Syria, with the German newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung” praising the Greek rescue teams and with special reference to Konstantinos Nikas.

The Greek rescuer, who “is seen in one photo, serious and exhausted, carrying, together with a Turkish rescuer in camouflage, a six-year-old girl on a stretcher, which he has just pulled from the ruins.

Such a photo alone bodes well in times of political tension between the two neighboring states. And it is one of those stories that, in the greatest disasters, give hope in hell.”

The German press estimates that the disaster that has shocked Turkey in recent days is going to have a very negative effect on Turkish President Erdogan ahead of the elections.

“The leader of the Turkish opposition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, has already accused Erdogan of failing to prepare the country for such a disaster, but also of squandering in other areas the state budget intended for the preparation of infrastructure in case of earthquakes,” reports Handelsblatt.

“The opposition is harshly criticizing Erdogan for ineffective disaster management. Videos are circulating on social media showing how fire brigade units from the opposition municipalities of Istanbul or Ankara are rescuing children, repairing damaged ports and airport runways.

On Wednesday, Twitter’s operations were drastically curtailed – and those familiar with the Turkish political scene speculate that the government is trying to stop the turn of public opinion against Erdogan,” the financial newspaper comments.
