Easter should generate 8,500 temporary jobs, says Abicab survey

This year’s Easter promises to be the most heated since the beginning of the pandemic. According to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Chocolate, Peanuts and Candy Industries (Abicab), more than eight thousand temporary jobs will be created to meet the demand for this holiday.

Even with double-digit inflation still haunting consumers, industries produced around 9,000 tonnes of eggs and Easter products, up 6% compared to the same period in 2020.

The sector says that the filling of new vacancies has been planned since the second half of 2021, to be able to meet the demands of sales.

Lucaino Salamacha, professor of strategy and business at FGV, said that “companies take advantage of this moment to replace professionals who, for some reason, came with extreme qualifications from the market for those who were not as qualified, as performing”.

Although the jobs are initially valid, establishments in the sector do not rule out transforming temporary jobs into permanent ones, but they depend on some factors for this realization.

“All temporary work can be carried out according to the worker’s ability, so the more he shows interest and gives feedback, the greater the chances of being integrated into the job market”, said Samira Gontijo, commercial director of Dengo Chocolates.

The Abicab survey also pointed to a change in the profile of consumers, who have come to prefer e-commerce in recent years. According to the entity, 71% of buyers choose to purchase traditional Easter eggs over the internet.
