Easter will have rain and cold in the South, Southeast and part of the Northeast

The Holy Week holiday will be cold and with a high possibility of rain in the South, Southeast and part of the Northeast region of the country, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet). speaking to CNNthe institute’s meteorologist, Mamedes Luiz Melo, detailed what the weather will be like in the coming days.

“There is a mass of polar air that is already in the south of the country and in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro that will bring some expressive volume of rain on Friday (15), later migrating to Espírito Santo and Bahia”, he explained.

The specialist says that temperatures will drop more in the mountainous regions of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina: “Friday and Saturday the temperature at dawn will be between 2 and 4 degrees and there will certainly be frost”, he details.

This polar air mass will travel to the Southeast and Midwest regions in the following days: “It’s not record cold, but it will be cold. Those who are traveling for the holidays in Rio will get a little chill,” explains Mamedes.

“In the next few days, this mass will head towards the northeast, passing through Espírito Santo and reaching the south of Bahia”, he details. According to Mamedes, the possibility of heavy rains exists.

“Saturday we should have a significant volume of rain in Bahia, in the regions of Salvador and Ilhéus”, he warns. According to the meteorologist, the chance of hail is also high: “As the temperature is still high, the thermal contrast with the arrival of the polar air mass can indeed cause hail.”

The expert warns that in the central region of the country the possibility of gusts of wind and thunderstorms is high. “Cuiabá, which is a warmer city, will have temperature drops until Saturday, reaching 28 degrees, but it takes one or two days, and on Sunday the temperature rises again above 30 degrees”, explains Mamedes.

According to Inmet, on Easter Sunday the weather starts to open up: “more towards São Paulo the sky opens again, making those typical autumn days in the region, with brigadeiro skies and milder temperatures”, he explains. “We are in a period of transition, with some days more like summer and others like winter, until winter really arrives.”

Tiradentes holiday

The Rio de Janeiro Samba Schools parade will have cleaner weather than the Easter holiday, according to Inmet. The changes observed from Sunday will be maintained during the following week.

“The temperature will rise again, but nothing extreme, it shouldn’t reach 30 degrees”, explains Mamedes, citing the clear sky characteristic of autumn in the Southeast. “That period without clouds, clear skies, the loss of radiation is greater, which leads to a drop in temperature during the dawn, but it rises again during the day”, he concludes.
