The new outbreak of COVID-19 in Britain has forced airlines, including easyJet, to cancel hundreds of flights in recent days as the number of sick workers skyrocketed.
England lifted all coronavirus restrictions earlier this year, including the requirement for self-isolation when one is positive for Covid-19 and the need to use a mask in public.
Cases began to rise in Britain around the beginning of last month and by the end of the week of March 26, one in 13 people was estimated to be positive for coronavirus, the highest number since the pandemic began.
While hospitalization levels are much lower than the previous highs of 2020 and 2021, companies report problems with their services as well as airports.
EasyJet canceled more than 200 flights over the weekend and announced that about 60 more will be canceled today. British Airways also made a small number of cancellations yesterday, saying the issue generally affects airlines and airports.
EasyJet said it had crews on standby to mitigate the impact and that in the event of a cancellation it would proceed with a merger of flights where such possibilities exist. “We regret any inconvenience this may cause to customers of affected flights,” he said in a statement.
Those who test positive for COVID-19 no longer need to be self-isolated under the law, but most companies advise them to do so.
