The president Joe Biden will meet Wednesday 1/2 for the first time since becoming speaker of the House of Representatives with Republican Kevin McCarthy. The US president is expected to ask him whether he will honor his “constitutional obligation” to prevent a US default when he welcomes him to the White House on Wednesday, according to the White House.
A White House spokesman said today that the conversation will cover a range of issues, including the US debt and economy.
Earlier today, the House speaker said he would meet with President Joe Biden to discuss raising the federal debt ceiling while reining in government spending, and added that Republicans will not allow the US to default.
“I know the president said he didn’t want to have any discussion. But I think it’s very important that our entire government is designed to find compromises. I want to find a sensible and responsible way to allow us to raise the debt ceiling (and) limit control of this out-of-control spending,” McCarthy said on CBS’ Face the Nation.
