Economy is the country’s biggest problem for 50% of voters, says Quaest poll

The new Genial/Quaest electoral poll, released this Wednesday (11), asked voters about the main problems facing Brazil today, a question for which 50% pointed to the economy as the biggest challenge.

Among the 50% concerned about the economy, 19% blame the economic crisis, 18% say inflation is the country’s main problem and 13% cite unemployment.

Compared to the survey’s historical series, inflation was the factor with the biggest increase: in September 2021, 6% said that rising prices were the biggest problem.

Still in the economic focus, 62% of respondents say they believe the economy has worsened in the last year, while 19% think it has stayed the same, 17% see improvements and 2% did not respond.

Paying bills has become more difficult in the last three months for 59%, the survey finds; another 23% saw no changes and 17% indicated improvements in this aspect.

Expectations, however, are for an improvement in the economic scenario in 12 months for 52% of respondents; 24% believe it will get worse and 19% think it will stay the same. Another 5% did not respond.

In addition to the preponderance of the economic aspect, 14% pointed to other problems as the biggest faced by the country at the moment.

Also according to the survey, the pandemic and other health issues are the main problem in Brazil for 13%.

Already 11% see social issues as the main executioner and 9% indicate corruption to this role. Another 3% did not answer the question.

Methodology

The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points. Two thousand people were interviewed face to face between the 5th and 8th of May. The survey is 95% confident. That is, if 100 surveys were carried out, at least 95 would present the same results within this margin.

The research was registered at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) under protocol BR-01603/2022.
