Economy plans to restore resources to federal universities by the end of the year

The economic team plans to recompose, by the end of the year, the budgetary resources that were restricted by the Ministry of Education and that may affect federal universities. The plan was confirmed to CNN by high-ranking members of the Ministry of Economy.

At the end of September, there was a blockage of R$ 2.6 billion. According to members of the federal government, the amount related to higher education was around R$ 51 million.

To unlock funds by December, as the Ministry of Economy hopes to achieve, the economic team is counting on an eventual increase in revenue and the reallocation of other portfolios.

In addition, the discussion made with the allied base in the National Congress is so that a portion of the so-called rapporteur’s amendments, dubbed “Secret Budget” are directed to the Ministry of Education.

In a note, Andifes (National Association of Directors of Federal Institutions of Higher Education) stated that the blockade for federal universities since the beginning of the year is R$ 763 million.

“This established limitation, which practically exhausts the possibilities of payment from now on, is unsustainable”, claimed the education entity.
