The National Electricity Operator of Ecuador announced on Friday (22) that new power cuts will be carried out in the country.
According to the operator, the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant had to close its floodgates due to landslides and other damage caused by the rains.
The organization added that distribution companies will disclose the areas and times when supply will be interrupted.
This announcement comes two days after a failure in the transmission line caused a series of problems in the electricity system and a “national” blackout, as authorities reported on Wednesday (19).
Still on Wednesday night, the government reported that 95% of service had been restored. An emergency committee will investigate the cause of the first failure.
President Daniel Noboa, who took office in November, recognizes that improving the functioning of Ecuador’s electrical system is one of his government’s biggest challenges.
