One person was killed and three others were injured Ecuadorafter the collapse of a roof in a sports center due to heavy hail in Quito, according to what was announced by the Civil Protection Service, ECU 911.
“Due to the weight of the large amount of hail that had fallen on the roof of the structure, it collapsed, resulting in hitting people who were playing sports”, ECU 911 explained in a press release. One person was found dead and three others were injured, the agency added, without specifying how seriously.
The accident took place in the northern district of Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where it was raining and hail from noon.
Since the beginning of the year, the rainy season in Ecuador has resulted in 44 dead, 92 injured and heavy property damage.
In February, heavy rains caused a landslide with 28 dead in Quito. Rainfall for 17 hours reached an unprecedented level of 75 liters per square meter.
