Ecuador’s Shanghai Volcano Roars – Ash Cloud Covers Communities

A cloud of volcanic ash, caused by the intense activity of the Shanghai volcano in central Ecuador, hit four communities in the country on Wednesday, according to an announcement from an official source. “Light ash falls were reported in Ciborasso province, Wamote and Kumanda cantons,” the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) said via X. “Ash falls” were reported in two other communities in Guayas province, Naranjito and Milagro, along Ecuador’s Pacific coast, some two hundred kilometers from the volcano’s cone, SNGR added later yesterday. Some 400,000 inhabitants live in these four communities. Strong volcanic eruptions were heard in five provinces around Shanghai and even in the capital Quito, media reported, citing “unusual” activity at the volcano, with up to 15 eruptions per minute for about 19 hours.
