Ed Sheeran and Elton John: what happened on the set of the Merry Christmas video

When two icons of world music meet, every expectation is legitimate. Ed Sheeran ed Elton John released their Christmas single Merry Christmas and actually in these hours the social networks are full of comments and appreciation from fans around the globe.

This is the first time that the two artists, linked by a friendship that began more than ten years ago, they find themselves throwing a single officer together. The occasion is tempting: the arrival of Christmas offers all of us the need to feel reassured and pampered by magical sounds, between joyful arrangements and lots of bells. And in Merry Christmas there is all this (and more).

In addition to the song (produced by Steve Mac) the official video clip has also been released, directed by Jason Koening. The images are a triumph of joy and fun and, knowing the sensibilities of the two artists involved, it seems that the atmosphere of celebration and goliardia was not limited to the moments when the camera was on.

To confirm these hypotheses are some statements that Ed Sheeran himself released to Zane Lowe on Apple Music. «I nearly killed Elton with a bell while shooting the video clip. There is also a video of that moment… I was dressed as a “sexy Santa Claus” and had to kick a gift bag. But the gift had a large metal bell on it. ‘ And he continued: «I showed him the video. The bell flew right over his head. I could have blown it up. ‘

This episode will soon have a social testimony: “I will post the video of that moment. David, Elton’s husband, told me I should post it on my channels. So in the end, I believe I will. In any case, the video clip is really crazy. We wanted to parody all the great British music videos that came out over the Christmas period ».

During the interview with Zane Lowe, the British singer-songwriter (who has just returned with his new record =) confessed that he would never have thought of releasing a song of this type. “When Elton called me and asked me to do a Christmas song, I wasn’t very convinced. I thought it made no sense to do it because there are already so many in circulation. Then, however, I said to myself: “If we want to do it, we have to put everything into it. There must be sleigh bells. There must be church bells in celebration. There must be mistletoe, a wild dance and wine ”». And so it was.

But that’s not all. To celebrate their first musical meeting, the two artists decided to donate the proceeds from the sales of the single during the entire Christmas period to Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and to Elton John AIDS Foundation.
