When he was 16, Edoardo Coen he was convinced that he would become a rock star: «I started playing guitar when I was 12. In the first year of classical high school, I enrolled in the Conservatory to study Ancient Music, but then I gave up. It was not the right path for me »reveals today Edoardo who, while continuing to play and write his songs in English, has chosen to devote himself to the career of the actor. After many years of theater and some appearances on TV in successful fiction such as Don Matteo, the big break comes with Luna Park, the series produced by Fandango is available on Netflix starting September 30 who sees him in the role of Matteo, a shy boy and lost in love with Rosa, who allowed him to immerse himself in the Rome of the Sixties.
What was it like going back in time?
«Beautiful, also because I have always been a nostalgic type. I am fascinated by things of the past, every time I go to the flea markets and antiques it is an extraordinary journey. Going back to the Sixties, with gelatin hair and incredible costumes, was a dream that came true ».
What dreams did you have as a child?
“Becoming Harry Potter. I have always had a great attraction within me for cinema and when, at the age of 10, I shot my first short film with my class, I immediately realized that something had changed. Theater is my life, but the ideal would be, one day, to be an actor and a musician together ».
Why did you decide to leave the Conservatory?
“I wasn’t entirely convinced. My father is a harpsichordist, I was pursuing what his path was, but I didn’t really feel it was mine ».
Was your father happy with his possible career as a musician?
“That was his dream, even if my parents supported me right from the start in the choice of becoming an actor. With my father, however, I have worked many times: on his tours I do the readings, I get busy ».
What child was he?
«An absolute clown, I held court much more than now. I had a spasmodic need to be the center of attention, I was always there looking, asking, imitating, exaggerating ».
When did you realize, instead, that you wanted to act seriously?
“Around 17, even if I was only thinking about theater. I was terrified of the camera. On the stage, on the other hand, I felt at home: there were never plans b and, luckily, everything went well. After the academy I started working immediately ».
How does going from the intimacy of a theater stage to the immense audience of a platform like Netflix make you feel?
“I try not to think about it and keep expectations low, like when you go to a dirty restaurant and wonder where the ingredients you have on your plate come from.”
What dreams do you have today?
«I dream of America, where there are many projects that are calling Italian actors to themselves. Thinking big, I’d like to work one day with Paul Thomas Anderson, Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan. Maybe it’s not that impossible after all ».
His greatest talent, however?
“I consider myself a good one. A serious professional ».
