Eduardo Guardia, former finance minister and CEO of BTG Pactual Asset, died this Monday (11), aged 56. The institution’s press office confirmed the death, but gave no further information.
Guardia replaced Henrique Meirelles at the head of the Ministry of Finance, in 2018, in the last nine months of Michel Temer’s government. Previously, he served as the executive secretary of the portfolio between 2016 and 2018.
He was also Secretary of the National Treasury in 2002, the last year of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government.
In 2019, he was announced as CEO of BTG Pactual Asset Management, where he stayed for almost three years.
Doctor in Economics from USP, Guardia was executive director of B3, and CFO and Investor Relations director of GP Investments. He leaves his wife Maria Lucia. He had no children.
