EET: Special holiday of interbank transactions on the 15th and 18th of April 2022

The trans-European automated system of fast transfer of funds in continuous time (TARGET2 system) will remain closed on the 15th and 18th of April 2022, (Good Friday and the second day of the Easter of the Catholics / Protesters). As the above days do not coincide with our national holidays, they are considered (article 11 of Law 3336/2005), special holidays of interbank transactions. Therefore, based on Law 3336/2005, on the above dates the branches of the Banks in Greece will remain open (these days are working days for the staff), but they will provide limited service to the trading public, as the non- operation of the TARGET2 System does not allow certain interbank transactions to take place.

The interbank trading holiday is valid for the Bank of Greece, the companies of the Athens Stock Exchange group, the company Interbank Systems SA, as well as the following categories of companies:

1. Credit institutions operating in Greece, which include the Greek credit institutions, the Deposits and Loans Fund and the branches of foreign credit institutions.

2. Investment Services Companies.

3. Leasing companies and receivables agency companies.

4. Mutual Fund Management Societes Anonymes and portfolio investment societes anonymes.

On the day of a special holiday, all overdue obligations arising from existing contracts between the above-mentioned entities and their customer, as well as other generally overdue, on the same day, their customer obligations to any third party, are fulfilled the next business day , that is, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, when the consequences of any non-fulfillment begin.

The transactions that will take place in the credit institutions on the days of the special holiday will be registered in their systems on April 19, 2022, ie the next working day.

According to the provisions of paragraph 5 of article 11 of Law 3336/2005, the obligations arising from the service of the Public Debt, loans and securities of the Greek State will be fulfilled according to these special conditions the previous or the next working day, that is, on Thursday, April 14 or Tuesday, April 19.

Following a relevant instruction of the Independent Public Revenue Authority, on the 15th and 18th of April 2022, will be accepted by the Public Financial Services (DOY) and the Customs Authorities of our country and bank checks that will be presented with a date of issue on the 19th of April 2022.

Finally, organizations and companies that work directly with banks are advised to contact their partner bank for any further information or clarification regarding the sending of debit files through standing orders and payroll credit files.
