Ef. Ahtsioglou: ‘Opacity, failure and exclusions of the Mitsotakis management of the Recovery Fund’

“The management of the Recovery Fund funds by Mr. Mitsotakis is characterized by opacity, failure and exclusions”, says in her statement the Head of Finance of SYRIA-PS, Efi Ahtioglou, commenting on the ND’s rejection of the proposal of the president of SYRIZA-PS for the establishment of a cross-party parliamentary committee to control the funds of the Recovery Fund.

Next, Mrs. Ahtsioglou states the reasons why – in her opinion – the government refused the proposal of Alexis Tsipras:

“One reason is the government’s well-known intolerance of transparency and accountability.

The other – less well known – is its performance so far in the absorption of these crucial funds for the Greek economy.

Despite the celebratory tones of the government, the reality is revealing:

– In 2021 the absorption was only 306 million euros, while initially the government predicted 2.6 billion and then reduced it to 1.6 billion, finally remaining dramatically far from even its reduced planning.

– In 2022, the absorption until June – without the money having yet reached the real economy – is 899 million, i.e. 28% of the 3.2 billion predicted by the government.

– In total the absorption for 2021 and the first half of 2022 is not even half of what the government originally predicted for 2021 alone.

The third reason why ND rejects the audit is the quality of the projects it seeks to finance. So far they concern imported products and older projects, while what will follow, along the lines of the Pissarides report, will exclude small and medium enterprises in favor of a few large enterprises. ND choices, in conditions of extreme precision and inflation, become even more painful for the real economy. They undermine not only the present but also the future of the social majority.”
