Egypt “exceptionally” opens border with Gaza Strip to receive wounded

Egypt opened the border crossing with it on Saturday Gaza StripHe sent ten ambulances to the besieged Palestinian enclave to pick up and transport to Egyptian hospitals people who had been injured in Israeli bombings since Monday, health officials said.

According to the latest report of the Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 145 people have been killed, including 41 children, and almost 1,100 have been injured since the Israeli Air Force and Artillery began pounding the densely populated area, APE-MPE reports.

Cairo “exceptionally opened the Rafa crossing to allow ten Egyptian ambulances to enter the Gaza Strip to transport wounded Palestinians to be treated in Egypt,” an official said.

The Rafa crossing is the only one that connects the Gaza Strip with the outside world and is not controlled by Israel. The Israeli authorities have been imposing an extremely harsh blockade on the enclave for almost 15 years.

An Egyptian border security official said the decision was “exceptional” as the border crossing is normally closed on public holidays, including Eid al-Fitr, which began on Wednesday.
