El Salvador Partners with AlphaPoint to Develop Chivo Public Wallet

The Salvadoran government has enlisted cryptocurrency software company AlphaPoint to develop and solve the problems of the Chivo government wallet.

Igor Telyatnikov, co-founder and CEO of AlphaPoint, said that the company signed an agreement with the administration of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele back in December. AlphaPoint is developing and fixing bugs in the government wallet software, according to the statement. Previously, residents of El Salvador complained about the loss of assets from Chivo wallets.

The developers are working on the Chivo mobile application, the infrastructure for accepting cryptocurrency payments, the portal for store owners and points of sale, the development of software for the support staff and the administrative console. Telyatnikov stressed that “most of the complaints” about the functioning of the wallet were received before the start of AlphaPoint.

The CEO of AlphaPoint also said that the company applied for infrastructure and software for the Chivo wallet even before the project was launched, but the El Salvadorian authorities chose Athena Bitcoin. It seems that a large number of complaints and problems with the wallet caused the government of the country to terminate the contract with Athena Bitcoin. However, there were no official statements on this matter.

According to message Bukele on the social network Twitter, the number of Chivo wallet users in El Salvador exceeded 4 million people. At the same time, the total population of the country is 6.5 million people, including children.

Earlier, IMF officials said that the Chivo wallet needs tighter and better oversight from regulators.
