Elderly man arrested after death of dogs hanging in MT

An elderly man was arrested red-handed by Civil Police of Cuiabá this Friday (15), on charges of ill-treatment to animals, which resulted in death. The animals died by hanging and the bodies were left in a wooded area, on the edge of the residence.

The case occurred in the Pascoal Ramos neighborhood and is being investigated by the Specialized Environmental Police Station (Dema), which received images reporting mistreatment against two small dogs.

When they arrived at the scene, the agents discovered that two dogs were tied by ropes to a tree, in cruel conditions. The victims were found dead, and showed signs of hanging and injuries caused by other animals.

Abuse and cruelty

The owner of the animals was found at the scene and confessed to having tied up the dogs to prevent them from escaping. He claimed to have gone out to work and, upon returning, found the animals dead.

An examination carried out at the scene found that the dogs had died from hanging, due to the ropes that held them. Furthermore, the animals had serious injuries, indicating that they were attacked by other animals.

The agents did not determine whether the attacks were carried out before or after the dogs were hanged, but the injuries were possibly caused by pigs, which lived in the same place.

The elderly man was arrested red-handed and taken to the Specialized Environmental Police Station. He will be charged with the crime of animal abuse, with a penalty of two to five years in prison.
