Elderly man dies while surfing in artificial wave pool in SC

A 66-year-old man died on the morning of last Wednesday (4) while surfing in an artificial wave pool in Garopaba, in the South of Santa Catarina.

According to the state Fire Department, officers were called to respond to a drowning incident in a private park. When they arrived at the scene to provide assistance, the elderly man was already receiving care from a nursing team and lifeguards from the park.

Before the incident, the victim was seen unconscious by other people who were there, shortly after falling off the board while practicing the sport.

The man suffered a cardiac arrest, could not resist and died at the scene. A few hours after the incident, Surfland Brasil made a statement on social media:

“It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of one of our clients who owned the Surfland Brasil property. We are deeply saddened by this loss and express our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time,” the company said.

According to the park’s management, at the time of the rescue by the company’s team, the park’s client still showed vital signs. According to the company, a report is being prepared by the Death Verification Service (SVO) and should clarify the possible causes of death.
