Elderly shelter is banned by irregularities in Rio de Janeiro

THE Public Prosecution Service of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) obtained the total interdiction from the Long -term institution for the elderly (ILPI) Recanto Estherlocated in Itaguaí, state metropolitan region.

The decision issued by Family Court, Childhood, Youth and the Elderly of the District of Itaguaí determined the transfer of 30 elderly housed on site within 48 hours, under penalty of Daily fine of R $ 1 thousand by the elderly not transferred. THE public civil action was moved by Prosecutor’s Office of Collective Guardianship of Itaguaí.

THE interdiction occurs after non -compliance with Sanitary Surveillance recommendations and the MPRJ. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the Public Civil Action, with the request for provisional urgent protection, points to irregularities such as food shortages, overdue foods, lack of hygiene of the elderly, sharing underwear, inadequate facilities and baths without doors.

In the complaint offered, the MPRJ also claims lack of professional framework. The property would have problems such as infiltration, exposed wiring, broken windows and the nursing room was in unhealthy conditions, without air conditioning, proper ventilation or refrigerator.
