Elderly with Alzheimer’s disappears and is found four days later in SP

An 81-year-old man, identified as João Amaro, was located by the Bauru Military Police last Thursday (15) after spending four days missing. The man was found weakened and with some injuries in a forest area of the city but without apparent trauma, according to the PM.

According to the São Paulo Public Security Bureau (SSP), the elderly was removed from the area by Captain André Antunes, who reported being very relieved. “Mr. João was already in a very debilitated state, finding him alive was very exciting. The duty was fulfilled,” he said.

On Sunday (11), the elderly left home in the morning to go to a bank and could not return to his residence due to the condition of Alzheimer’s. His daughter registered the police report the next day, which began the search.

The Barra Bonita police station analyzed images of the security cameras of the various trades and surroundings where John could have passed, which allowed him to be found.

“It was a thorough two -day job, until I arrived on the probable path, in a closed forest region near a river,” according to SSP.

In addition, the 27th Interior Military Police Battalion (BPM/I) team called the Military Police Aviation Base (BAVPM) from the city of Bauru to facilitate access to the region and streamline the rescue.

The elderly was sent to Santa Casa de Barra Bonita, a hospital responsible for medical care, and found the family there.
