A 80-year-old elderly woman who was kept in private jail by her husband was rescued last Tuesday during a Civil Police operation in Bataguassu (MS), 310 kilometers from Campo Grande.
The suspect was arrested in the act and will be responsible for crimes of proceeds and retirement, private jail, bodily injury and rape.
The rescue was carried out by the Bataguassu Woman Care Station, with the support of the Military Police. According to investigations, both the suspect and the elderly daughter are crack users, and there is evidence that the victim’s retirement had been used to support their addiction.
When rescued, the elderly woman was found in extreme physical weakness, showing evident signals of malnutrition and abandonment. The residence did not have a stove or refrigerator, which indicated the lack of proper diet.
In addition, the police investigate the possibility that the victim would be kept constantly doped to prevent any attempted escape or relief request.
The suspect was taken to a police station and will remain available to the court. Already the daughter of the elderly is receiving psychological and social follow -up.
The Civil Police is still investigating the case to identify possible accomplices and obtain more details on the appropriation of the victim’s financial resources.
