Elections 2022: garbage collected on the streets of Rio de Janeiro rises 50%

During the voting of the first round of the 2022 general elections, which took place on Sunday (2), teams from the Municipal Urban Cleaning Company (Comlurb) in Rio de Janeiro collected a total of 128.2 tons of waste from the streets of the city.

In comparison with the first round of the previous general elections, in 2018, there was a 50% increase in the amount of garbage collected, when there were 85 tons of garbage.

According to Comlurb, 2,225 street sweepers and 312 urban cleaning agents worked yesterday, before, during and after the election, around all polling stations in the city’s 46 Electoral Zones.

43 compactor trucks, eight large sweepers, four compact sweepers and 112 blowers were used, in addition to 13 water trucks and nine motor pumps with reused water.

Election

In the state of Rio de Janeiro, almost 10 million voters went to the polls yesterday to choose new state and federal deputies, a senator, governor and president.

According to data from the Superior Electoral Court, abstention from voting was 22.74% in the state.

The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) is composed of 70 deputies and the federal bench has 46 deputies.

Romário was elected senator, with 29.19% of the votes, and Cláudio Castro was elected for another four years in the Rio de Janeiro government, with 58.67% in the first round. In the state vote, Jair Bolsonaro received 51.09% and Lula 40.68%.
