Elections in Turkey – Tension in Imamoglu’s speech: Nine people were injured by stones

An alarm was sounded on Sunday (7/5) at Turkey. Just one week before the elections almost ten people were injured when unknown they threw stones during a speech opposition leaders in the eastern part of the country.

THE Ekrem Imamoglouthe mayor of Istanbul, a prominent member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), complained, as reported by the Athens News Agency, that unknown people threw stones at him, as he was speaking on the roof of the bus he is touring the country with, as part of the campaign.

At least nine people listening to him were injuredhe emphasized via Twitter.

The party released footage of people with head injuries.

Ekrem Imamoglu complained that the security forces remained idle on purpose, speaking of provocations. He emphasized that the attack had nothing to do with the residents of Erzurum (Theodosioupoli), where it unfolded.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu reacted in a way that left no doubt about how much the tone has hardened in the election campaign: “Ekrem Imamoglu, who calls the people in Erzurum provocateurs, is himself a provocateur,” he said.
