Elections will be held in North Macedonia in May

The parliamentary ones elections at North Macedonia will take place in May, following a decision taken by the leaders of the parliamentary parties at a meeting in Skopje.

The elections will be held on May 8 (day Wednesday) 2024 and will coincide with the second round of the presidential electionsas the first round will be held on April 24 2024.

According to the current electoral legislation of North Macedonia, A caretaker government is formed 100 days before the elections are held which leads the country until the parliamentary elections. This means that on On January 28, 2024, a caretaker government will be formed in the country.

Based on a political agreement between the co-ruling parties “Social Democratic Union” (SDSM) led by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovacevsky and the Albanian DUI led by Ali Ahmedi, this caretaker government will be headed by a person nominated by the DUI party. In this caretaker government, the opposition will nominate two ministers from its ranks (Interior and Labour).

According to all opinion polls, the right-wing VMRO-DPMNE, led by Christian Mickoski consistently ahead of the ruling Social Democratic Party by a considerable margin.

As for the presidential elections, the country’s largest parties have not yet announced their candidates. The president of North Macedonia is Stevo Pendarovskiwhose five-year term ends in May 2024. Pendarovsky was elected president of the country in the 2019 elections with the support of SDSM and DUI.
