Sales of electric and hybrid vehicles in Brazil reached 27,097 units between January and October 2021, an increase of 74% over license plates for the same period in 2020 (15,565). The data are from the Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association (ABVE).
In October alone, sales of electrified vehicles totaled 2,823 vehicles — 24% more than in October 2020 (2,273). Compared to September 2021 (2,749), October sales grew 2.7%.
The numbers confirm ABVE’s forecast that license plates for electrified vehicles in Brazil will exceed 30,000 units in 2021, setting a new record.
In 2020, which had already been the best year for electromobility in Brazil, total sales in the electrified segment reached 19,745 units.
Now, if the forecast of more than 30,000 licenses in 2021 is confirmed, this year’s growth compared to last year could be more than 50%.
Electrified vehicles include hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) and all-battery electric (BEV) automobiles and light commercial vehicles.
The numbers are from the National Registry of Automotive Vehicles (Renavam), of the Ministry of Infrastructure, compiled by ABVE.
