Today, September 9, audio systems maker Bowers & Wilkins officially announced that the latest electric crossover BMW iX is the first electric vehicle to be equipped with a highly advanced Diamond Surround Sound system, which is based on special woofers called the Diamond Dome. It should be noted right away that the word diamond in the name is used for a reason – the manufacturer makes the domes of tweeters in the speakers from diamonds, which are then also covered with a protective layer of platinum. A similar technology is used, for example, in the famous recording studio Abbey Road Studios.
True, we are not talking about natural diamonds, but about artificial ones – otherwise the design would be unnecessarily expensive and would not make it to a production car. Moreover, the manufacturer noted that the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system consists of thirty speakers that are located throughout the interior of the electric car – their total power is 1615 watts, but in the BMW iX this bonus will be installed only as an additional option. Unfortunately, so far there is no information on the cost of the speakers with diamonds inside, but it will probably be the top option among the options in the audio systems section.
However, this is not the first time that BMW has used Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound in its cars – the first model of the brand to receive the latest audio system is the BMW 7 Series sedan of the G11 generation. However, in this car and the power is lower, “only” 1400 watts.
