The new flagship electric vehicle Mercedes-Benz EQS debuted in April 2021. The declared cruising range for the WLTP cycle reached 770 km. The stricter EPA rating was expected to be slightly lower, but after testing, it turned out that its cruising range could reach only 563 km.
This is an EPA statement that holds true for the less powerful EQS 450+ without all-wheel drive. The EQS 580+ 4Matic has a slightly lower EPA cruising range at 547 km. These characteristics are significantly lower than that of the Tesla Model S Long Range, which is rated by the EPA for more than 650 km on a single charge. And the range of the new Lucid Air is an impressive 836 km.
True long-range version of Lucid Air and costs 139,000 dollars versus 102,310 dollars, which are asked in the US for the EQS 450+. As for Tesla, the Model S Long Range starts at $ 89,990.
While the WLTP estimates are encouraging, the EPA’s estimates often seem too pessimistic. When the US Environmental Protection Agency estimated the 2020 Porsche Taycan’s range to be 323 km, the automaker brought in an independent company to contradict the results, and it worked. Additional tests by Inside EVs have confirmed Porsche’s measurements.
Mercedes-Benz EQS 2022 arrives at dealerships this fall.
