As it became known to the Automotive News portal in the document in question, Ford is talking about postponing the start of production of the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator electric crossovers by 18 months. If at first it was expected that their release will begin somewhere in the middle of 2023, then now Ford is talking about the end of 2024.
In addition to the timing of production, Ford is also postponing the assembly site for the “green” versions of the Ford Explorer and Lincoln. Initially, the company hoped to establish their production at its assembly plant in Mexico, in Cuautitlan. However, due to the high demand for the electric Mustang Match-E, the manufacturer decided to devote all production facilities to the assembly of this model. This year, Ford plans to deliver about 60,000 Mustang Match-E, and by 2030, the company intends to increase production to 200,000 units per year. It is not yet known how the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator will be produced with an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine and at which of the manufacturer’s factories.
