Electric vehicles will have to wait. Volkswagen has almost sold out all the cars planned for production this year

The plans of the automotive giants for rapid electrification are clearly poorly aligned with reality, and on many fronts. For example, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess said that the company has almost sold out all electric vehicles planned for this year in the US and Europe.

Of course, we are talking about pre-ordered cars. The company has collected a number of orders that are roughly comparable to Volkswagen’s plans for the production of electric vehicles in 2022. By the way, this applies to cars of the entire concern, that is, at the same time, Audi, Skoda and others.

Thus, most of those who want to order such an electric car later this year will have to wait until 2023.

The problem is not only in a fairly high demand, but also in the continuing shortage of components and chips, to which was added the shutdown of factories in China due to another outbreak of COVID-19.

Volkswagen expects backlogs to continue to rise. Currently, there are already many people in line waiting to receive an electric car, and there will be more during the year.

According to the source, in the first quarter of this year, the German auto giant sold just under 100,000 electric vehicles. For comparison, Tesla sold about 310,000 cars during the same period.
