Electricity consumption rises 3.3% in the first half of August, says CCEE

Electricity consumption in Brazil reached 63,519 average megawatts in the first fifteen days of August, an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period in 2021, according to preliminary information from the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber (CCEE).

The result mainly reflects the resumption of some important economic activity sectors for the country, such as services and wood, paper and cellulose, in addition to higher maximum temperatures in a large part of the national territory.

The free market, which supplies industry and large companies, such as shopping malls and retail chains, consumed an average of 23,219 MW, an amount 5.7% higher than in the previous year.

The other 40,300 average MW were destined for the regulated market, which includes residential consumers and small companies.

The environment rose by almost 2% year-on-year.
